Given the challenging possibility of our course International Cultural Management in the 5th semester I have the pleasure to write about the importance of corporate hierarchies.
To achieve a structure I splitted the theme into the following subtitles:

1)    Corporate hierarchy overview showing the structure and organizational possibilities offered within corporate hierarchies under consideration of the models of corporate culture
2)    The second subtitle describes the importance of corporate hierarchies and it’s risks
3)    This chapter tries to figure out if social media has an influence on corporate hierarchies and attempts to show the flattening of corporate hierarchies caused by social media with special focus on upcoming microblogging tools
4)    My last subtitle to be re-viewed shows international successful changes in corporate hierarchies

When presenting yourself for a new job it is hardly to imagine that you are able to gain a valuable insight on nor the practical lived structure of the company’s corporate hierarchy neither the living of the corporate culture independently if it is recorded and communicated or not. Additionally, you are getting only a rough overview over the managerial skills of your line manager during the short time slot of an interview. I wonder if you are thinking about the following questions during the application process for a new job and how important they are for you:

  • How important is the type of organization (i.e. single-line system, multiple-line system, matrix organization) for you?
  • Do you prefer working in flat or in vertical structures?
  •  In terms of managerial skills and under consideration of the four types of organizational cultures of Kennedy / Deal – For which type do you prefer to work?
  • With regard to the social media – Do you think that they are influencing hierarchies or even have the possibility to flatten them?

Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me!
Best wishes,
Steffi
